Meet Coach Derrick Adkins — Wrestler, Fighter, Black Belt

If you've trained at Raptor, you've met him. If you haven't yet, this is who you'll meet on your first day.

Derrick 'A-Game' Adkins is the head instructor and owner of Raptor Jiu-Jitsu. He started in wrestling, winning an Oklahoma high school state title in 2007 and competing collegiately at the University of Central Oklahoma. From there he moved into Jiu-Jitsu, building a professional career across both striking and grappling.

As a fighter, Derrick competed in Bellator, Legacy FC, and the LFA, and held the FCF Lightweight Championship. He also boxed professionally, earning an Oklahoma state title and competing on Showbox cards. Across boxing and kickboxing he has more than thirty professional bouts, and he has cornered and coached fighters at the UFC, Bellator, and LFA level. He also competed on Season 9 of the PGF as a member of the Phenoms team.

Derrick earned his Jiu-Jitsu black belt in 2021 under Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu. He has written curriculum for a major Jiu-Jitsu affiliation serving more than 150 academies, and today he owns and operates Raptor Jiu-Jitsu — leading its programs in Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing for students of every age and experience level.

His approach reflects the four principles the academy is built on: discipline, respect, focus, and integrity. That's what you'll see on the mat, and that's what shows up in the students who train here.
